5-Minute Head-to-Hand Transition

Time needed: 5 minutes (90-90-120 seconds)

Setting: When shifting from thinking to creating/making

Purpose: Bridging mental and physical creativity

Mind Release (90 seconds)

What: Create mental transition:

- Notice thought patterns and mental activity

- Place hands palms down, imagine releasing thoughts through fingertips

- Shake hands gently to discharge mental energy

- Take three breaths focusing on sensation in hands

- Let analytical mind step back

Notice: How thinking feels different from making, where mental tension resides, what shifts as you release

Why: Creates clear transition, reduces overthinking, prepares for embodied creating

Hand Awakening (90 seconds)

What: Activate making awareness:

- Rub hands together creating warmth

- Trace lines in palms with opposite thumb

- Stretch fingers wide, then curl into loose fists

- Tap fingertips gently against surface

- Feel texture of materials you’ll work with

Notice: Sensations in hands, how touch differs from thought, where making intelligence lives

Why: Builds somatic awareness, activates different brain networks, engages tactile intelligence

Making Bridge (120 seconds)

What: Begin creative action:

- Start with simplest physical movement

- Let hands lead without planning next steps

- Focus fully on sensation of materials

- Notice pleasure in physical creation

- Allow imperfection in initial movements

Notice: How action bypasses analysis, what emerges when hands lead, where flow begins

Why: Builds making confidence, reduces creative blocks, enables embodied creating
